Cooch Behar: In yet another terrible incidence, a 45-year-old man in the Cooch Behar area was allegedly shot and killed by one of his cousins over a land dispute on Tuesday afternoon.
Police were able to find the corpse. The search for the suspect has started.
According to accounts, the relative Bappa Hossain and the victim Mominul Sarkar had a protracted dispute over a piece of land. According to The Telegraph, they both resided in East Shikarpur village, which is a part of the Nazirhat-I panchayat of the Sahebganj police station.
During a dispute on Tuesday, Bappa is accused of pulling a gun, shooting Mominul. Mominul apparently received a headshot and passed away instantly. As locals flocked to the scene, Bappa ran away.
In a separate instance, police officer Surajit Mallick, 46, was found hanged on Tuesday morning at his home in Jalpaiguri. Sources claim that Mallick, an Adarpara native, was employed by the Kolkata Police. He went on leave on July 23 and was supposed to come back on July 30, according to The Telegraph.
He had an autopsy, and police are awaiting the results.
