Anti Hindi Statement by Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi: Do people who speak Hindi, later on sell only pani puri? You will say no, but maybe Tamil Nadu’s Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi (K. Ponmudi) thinks so. Giving a controversial statement in a program, the minister said that people who speak Hindi language either do second-class jobs or sell panipuri.
‘Why are you selling Hindi Pani Puri’?
Of. Ponmudi was addressing the convocation ceremony of Bharathiyar University in Coimbatore on Friday. Hindi language was not an issue in the ceremony. Despite this, raising the issue of forcibly opposing Hindi, the minister said that if there is a debate on the fact that learning Hindi language gives more employment, then why are Hindi speakers selling pani puri here. ‘English is more important than Hindi’.
Ponmudi (K. Ponmudi) did not stop at this only. He said that as a language, English is more important than Hindi. He claimed in front of the people that Hindi speaking people do second-class jobs. The Higher Education Minister of Tamil Nadu said that if Tamil students want to learn languages, then Hindi should be an optional subject and not a compulsory subject for them.
‘Government will teach only Tamil and English’
He told that the Government of Tamil Nadu will implement the good things of the National Education Policy 2020. However, as far as language is concerned, it is committed to implement two language system instead of three language. In this, the first language will be Tamil and the second language will be English. If a Tamil student wants to study Hindi then he can read it as an alternative.
Opposing Hindi for political gains
Let us tell you that Tamil Nadu is the only state in the country where the anti-Hindi movement is still alive. The major regional parties of the state DMK and AIDMK are keeping this issue alive even today for their political gains. While there is no opposition to Hindi in Tamil Nadu’s neighboring states of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and there Hindi is taught in all government schools till 10th standard.
