On Tuesday, June 21, the eighth edition of International Yoga Day will be celebrated across the world, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the mega exercise from an event in Mysuru, Karnataka, where over 15,000 yoga enthusiasts are expected to join him.
The BJP will commemorate the occasion by holding yoga sessions at 75,000 locations across the country. The BJP’s Union ministers and chief ministers, as well as elected representatives such as MPs and MLAs and party office-bearers, will take part in various yoga events.
PM Modi’s yoga event in Mysuru is part of the unique ‘Guardian Yoga Ring,’ which is a collaboration between 79 countries and UN organisations, as well as Indian missions around the world, to demonstrate yoga’s unifying potential beyond borders.
Here are the most important points about Tuesday’s grand celebrations:
▫️The theme for this year’s Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for Humanity.’ According to the PMO, the subject depicts how yoga assisted humanity in easing suffering during the Covid outbreak.
▫️The theme for this year’s celebrations will be ‘Brand India on the Global Stage,’ with a focus on the country’s historic locations.
▫️Around 25 crore people are anticipated to participate in various events around the world, practising yoga in unison for greater health and wellness for everybody, according to Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
▫️J P Nadda, the BJP’s president, will participate in a yoga session in Noida, while Home Minister Amit Shah will attend a programme in Delhi.
▫️Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and ministers from 40 districts will participate in Yoga Day celebrations at 75,000 locations around the state. Yogi will participate in a practise session at Raj Bhavan in Lucknow, where he has set a target of 3.5 crore people.
▫️With the cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Monuments Authority will conduct an astrophysical analysis of the sun’s path around the Qutub Minar, according to a statement from the culture ministry. The research will see if the Qutub Minar is slanted at an angle, if it has any astronomical significance, and if the Minaret has a zero shadow at local noon on June 21.
▫️At 75 iconic locations across India, the Ministry of Ayush is commemorating International Yoga Day. According to the PMO, 75 Union ministers will lead mass yoga demonstrations in 75 iconic locations across the country.
▫️In Arunachal Pradesh, India’s easternmost village, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, will lead the Yoga Day celebrations. At Dong in Arunachal’s Anjaw district, Rijiju will head the programme.
▫️On June 21, the celebrations at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Kevadia will be led by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. One of the 75 iconic sites for nationwide observation has been chosen as the Statue of Unity.
▫️On May 6, the Prime Minister wrote a letter in Hindi to all sarpanches or gram pradhans to guarantee that the Yoga Day celebrations were large-scale. According to Sonowal, the Ayush Secretary has requested to all state and UT chief secretaries to facilitate a translation of the PM’s letter into the state’s native or regional language and have it distributed to gram pradhans through district collectors.
