New Delhi: Group leader Shapoorji Pallonji Pallonji Mistry has died at his residence here, company officials said on Tuesday. Mistry, the largest individual shareholder in the Tata Group with an 18.4% stake in the group, is 93.
He died in deep sleep at his residence in south Mumbai overnight from Monday to Tuesday, officials said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his condolences over the business magnate’s passing. “Grieve over the passing of Shri Pallonji Mistry. He has made great contributions to the world of commerce and industry. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and countless supporters. May his soul rest in peace,” PM Modi wrote on Twitter.
Born in 1929, Mistry received the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian honor, for his contributions as an industrialist.
Shapoorji Pallonji Group is headquartered in Mumbai, established in 1865, operating in the fields of construction, real estate, textiles, engineering goods, home appliances, transportation, publications, energy. and biotechnology. Mistry is the largest individual shareholder in Tata Group with a total stake of more than 18%. His father, Shapoorji Pallonji bought shares of Tata Sons in 1930.
