Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh has been suspended from Rajya Sabha for a week. He has been suspended for tearing the paper and blowing it towards the seat. So far, 20 Rajya Sabha MPs and four Congress MPs from Lok Sabha have been suspended. Sanjay Singh said on Twitter after the suspension, “I may have been suspended by Modi ji, but will keep fighting, seeking answers for 55 deaths due to poisonous liquor in Gujarat. Right now I am in the house.”
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh said that Sanjay Singh was in the well and was raising slogans. He also said that Sanjay Singh tore the paper and tossed it towards the seat which is a complete disregard for the posture. Soon after, a motion against Sanjay Singh was passed with a voice vote and he was thrown out of the premises.
Sanjay Singh is the 20th MP who has been suspended for the remainder of this week’s session, which is the highest ever suspension of MPs from the Upper House. Earlier, in the session of November last year, 12 opposition MPs were suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the entire session after creating a ruckus against the Agriculture Bill.
On Tuesday, 19 MPs protesting in the Well were advised by Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh to leave the Well, but they continued to protest there. Later, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan moved a motion against him which was passed with a voice vote.
Among the suspended MPs, seven are from TMC, six from DMK, three from TRS, two from CPM and one from CPI. Rajya Sabha Leader of the House Piyush Goyal said that not the government but the opposition is running away from the debate. He said that 19 members have violated the rights of other members. He also appealed to the opposition MPs to join the proceedings.
