Presidential Election 2022: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the post of President Draupadi Murmu reached Delhi from her home state Odisha on Thursday. Murmu is going to file her nomination for the post of President today. Reaching Delhi a day before filing nominations, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda. (JP Nadda). Former Jharkhand governor Murmu, 64, will file her nomination on Friday in the presence of other senior leaders including Prime Minister Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During the nomination, two senior ministers of the state government will be present as representatives of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) of Odisha. The BJD has supported Murmu’s candidature.
On behalf of Murmu, Prime Minister Modi will be the first mover in Murmu’s nomination papers for the presidential candidate from NDA. Other top leaders of the party including BJP President Nadda will also be among the proposers. Union Minister and senior BJP leader is signing the documents at the residence of Prahlad Joshi as proposer and supporter. Prime Minister Modi said that Murmu’s candidature for the post of President is being appreciated across the country and by all sections of the society. He shared pictures of the meeting on Twitter.

Jagannath Sarka will come in place of CM Patnaik in nomination
Meanwhile, BJP President Nadda spoke to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over phone and urged him to be present during the filing of nomination papers by Murmu. Since Patnaik is on a tour of Italy, he has asked two of his cabinet colleagues, Jagannath Sarka and Tukuni Sahu, to sign Murmu’s nomination papers and be present during the nomination, expressing regret for the unavailability. Sarka Patnaik is the Minister of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development in the cabinet while Tukuni Sahu holds the portfolios of Water Resources, Commerce and Transport.

My cabinet colleagues Jagannath Sarka and Tukuni Sahu will sign the nomination papers today and will be present at the nomination program tomorrow. ” Thereafter, Sarka and Saha reached the residence of Union Minister Prahlad Joshi in Delhi and signed the nomination papers. BJD leader Sasmit Patra was also present on the occasion. Apart from Sarka and Sahu, at least 10 out of 22 BJD MLAs will also be present during the nomination. The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) has also announced its support for Murmu’s candidature. The final decision in this regard will be taken soon in a meeting of the alliance partners.
Suspended MLAs of MDA can also vote for Murmu
Five Congress MLAs who were suspended for supporting the MDA can also vote in Murmu’s favour. All India Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, a subsidiary organization of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has appealed to all parties to elect her unanimously, terming the decision to field Draupadi Murmu as its candidate in the presidential election as “historic”. The organization asked all the parties to make commitment for the all-round progress of the tribal community by electing Murmu to the post of President. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called upon the people to celebrate by distributing sweets, playing drums and singing and dancing in their respective district centers and villages when Murmu will file his nomination papers at 12 noon on Friday.

Earlier, on Murmu’s arrival in Delhi, several leaders including Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta, party MP Manoj Tiwari and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramesh Bidhuri. welcomed him at the airport. In a brief statement in Odisha before leaving for the national capital, Murmu had said, “I thank everyone and seek cooperation from everyone in the presidential election. I will meet all the voters (MPs) before July 18 and I will seek their support.” Voting for the presidency will be held on July 18. The term of the current President Ram Nath Kovind is ending on July 24.
