Siliguri: “Mitali Express” service between India-Bangladesh is going to start from June 1. This train will go from New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal to Dhaka in Bangladesh. This will be the third India-Bangladesh train service. The train will cover a distance of 513 kms between New Jalpaiguri and Dhaka (Dhaka Cantonment Station) in nine hours. It will have four air-conditioned cabin coaches and four air-conditioned chairs. It will be powered by a diesel locomotive.
During a two-day visit to Cooch Behar and NJP station, Minister of State for Railways Darshan Jardosh said that customs and immigration services will remain in force for international train travel. Talking to ANI, the minister said that with the bilateral ties, “Mitali Express” will help tourism to flourish. The minister further said that in the coming days, there will be a hospital, shopping complex and low budget hotels for convenience around the station.
Minister of State for Railways Darshan Jardosh also made a tweet, in which it was written that from 1st June’22, Mithali Express will run between New Jalpaiguri and Dhaka, which will improve connectivity between India and Bangladesh. Visited the Immigration Facilitation Center at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station and reviewed the preparations for the operation of Mithali Express.
Maitri and Bandhan Express service will also start
Train services between Kolkata and the cities of Bangladesh were suspended in March 2020 as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19, with the Railway Board running the Dhaka to Kolkata-Dhaka Friendship Express by rakes of Bangladesh Railways and the Kolkata to Kolkata- Orders have been issued to restart Khulna Bandhan Express by Indian Railways rake on 29th May, 2022.
At the same time, services of NJP-Dhaka Mithali Express are planned to be started after digitally flagging off Mithali Express by Railway Ministers of India and Bangladesh from Rail Bhavan on June 1. During that time Bangladeshi Railway Minister is expected to be in India.
