Quad Summit 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to leave for Tokyo today to participate in the Quad leaders’ summit being held in Japan. Prime Minister Modi seems very excited to participate in the quad leaders’ conference. Prior to this visit, Prime Minister Modi has tweeted that ‘I am leaving at the invitation of Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida’.
The Prime Minister wrote in his tweet that in March 2022 I had the privilege of hosting Prime Minister Kishida for the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit. In my visit to Tokyo, I look forward to further talks aimed at strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
The Prime Minister further said that, ‘I will also participate in the summit meeting of the Quad leaders. During this time we will exchange views about the development of the Indo-Pacific region and global issues of mutual interest. At the same time, the Prime Minister wrote in his tweet that, ‘I will have a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden where we will discuss further strengthening our bilateral relationship with the United States of America.’
At the same time, the new Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese will attend the Quad Leaders Summit for the first time. PM Modi said that ‘I look forward to a bilateral meeting with him during which regional and global issues between India and Australia will be discussed under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’.
Let us tell you that PM Modi will attend the Quad conference in Tokyo on 23 and 24 May. Where he will also hold separate meetings with the heads of state of America, Japan and Australia. Prime Minister Modi will be in Japan for 40 hours and will attend 23 meetings. He will also interact with 36 Japanese CEOs and overseas Indians.
Significantly, this is the fourth dialogue between the Quad leaders after the first meeting held through digital means in March 2021. Quad leaders attended the meeting in Washington in September 2021, while the meeting was held digitally in March 2022. This meeting of the Quad is very useful from the diplomatic point of view. Quad is a very useful forum for India in view of the India-China border dispute. The Quad Leaders Summit will provide an opportunity for the leaders of the 4 Quad countries to review the progress of the Quad Initiative. Before the summit, the PM told that this time all the leaders will focus on development in the Indo-Pacific and on global issues of mutual interest.
